Reefer Madness

Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, "Reefer Madness" is a raucous musical comedy that takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence. This spoofy stylized satire will leave you wanting another hit of fun!

Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family’s history—a wound they don’t want reopened. When Brooke draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it, family secrets take on a whole new meaning.

The Real Housewives of Napa Valley 2025

May 30-June 15, 2025

"The Real Housewives of Napa Valley" is an original parody musical by Rob Broadhurst and Barry Martin that premiered May-June 2024. But one time around the track is not enough for this no-holds-barred romp through for these pretentious wives, their weird husbands, and the long-suffering producers trying to keep their show on the air.

A Season Subscription (or Season Ticket) provides you with tickets to all seven shows in our 2024-25 season. You save 20% over single show ticket prices, and you have your seats secured in advance and don't have to worry about missing a show because it's sold out. Subscribers also get freedom to move their tickets to a different performance date at no charge. Subscriptions for the full season will be on sale through September 29, 2024.

There are four different Subscriber packages to choose from:
  • Opening Night (First Friday of the run) at 7:30pm
  • Any Friday or Saturday after opening night at 7:30pm
  • Sunday Matinee at 2:00pm
  • Thursday Night at 7:30pm

All evening performances will begin at 7:30pm and all matinees begin at 2pm.

The roles of Fagin, Nancy, Bill Sykes and Mrs. Sowerberry have been cast. All other roles available.
Oliver Twist. Male, 9 – 12 years old, any ethnicity. A workhouse boy in the orphanage. Vocal Range: Boy Soprano, A3 – F5.
The Artful Dodger – Male, 14 – 18, any ethnicity. Should be no more than 5’9”. Fagin’s brightest pupil. Vocal range: Soprano A#3 - F5.
Bet – Female, teen-aged, any ethnicity. A 15 year old girl in Fagin's establishment, who idolizes Nancy. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano G#3-G5.
Mr. Bumble – Male, 35 – 60, any ethnicity. A large and pompous Beadle of the workhouse. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Bari-tenor Bb3-A4.
Mrs. Corney – Female, 40 – 55, any ethnicity. A sharp-tongued, domineering widow. The Workhouse Mistress. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Soprano B2 - G5.
Mr. Brownlow – Male, 55 – 70, any ethnicity. An old gentleman of wealth and breeding. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Open.
Mr. Sowerberry – Male, 45 – 60, any ethnicity. The undertaker. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Baritone C2 - Db4.
Charlotte – Female, 18 – early 20s, any ethnicity. The Sowerberry’s “amorous” daughter. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Open.
Noah Claypole – Male, 18 – 25, any ethnicity. Mr. Sowerberry’s pimply apprentice. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Open.
Mr. Grimwig – Male, 35 – 50, any ethnicity. A Doctor. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Open.
Mrs. Bedwin – Female, 45 – 60, any ethnicity. The Brownlow’s housekeeper. Will double in the ensemble. Vocal range: Mezzo soprano.

“Reefer Madness” follows wholesome high school students Jimmy and Mary, whose lives take a turn when they become involved with the controversial “reefer” subculture. Along the way, they encounter an interesting cast of characters, including the charismatic Jack and the seductive Mae. “Reefer Madness” is a cautionary tale that pokes fun at societal fears and moral panic.

THE LECTURER. Male identifying. Baritone. A severe authority figure who warns the audience of the perils of Reefer. He is the narrator of the show and doubles as many other characters such as Goat-Man, Mr Poppy, Irish Priest, Old Man, Radio Announcer, Ticket-Taker, FDR.

JIMMY HARPER. Male identifying. To play high school age. Bari-Tenor.
A wholesome, innocent, high school teenager who runs into trouble after he is lured into the dangerous world of Reefer. Acting requirements vary from clean cut, all-American good boy to a drug obsessed and addicted felon.

MARY LANE. Female identifying. To play high school age. Soprano.
Jimmy's sweetheart. A naive, virginal teenage girl. She sees nothing but good in people but when trying to save Jimmy from the perils of Reefer, she has an encounter with a Reefer stick turning her into a sex crazed dominatrix.

JACK STONE. Male identifying. Age range: 30’s-50’s. Tenor.
The handsome and ruthless proprietor of The Reefer Den. A 30's gangster movie type. Doubles as Jesus Christ & George Washington.

MAE. Female identifying. Age range: 30’s-50’s. Alto.
An attractive, yet slightly haggard dame. she is the hostess of The Reefer Den. She is in a dangerous and sexually abusive relationship with Jack. She can't leave through fear of not getting her hits of Reefer.

RALPH WILEY. Male identifying. Age range: 30’s-40’s. Tenor/Strong Falsetto
A denizen of The Reefer Den, formally a fraternity man, his college days ended long ago due to his Reefer habit. He doubles as Sally’s baby, Switch Puller and Uncle Sam.

SALLY. Female identifying. Age range: 30’s-40’s. Mezzo.
A sexy and seductive resident of The Reefer Den, she possesses the libidinous soul of Mae West combined with the rat-a-tat moxie of vintage Barbara Stanwyck. She doubles as Lady Liberty

As Napa Valley’s Premier Theatre Company, Lucky Penny Productions creates, develops and presents professional quality theatre, and fosters educational opportunities for youth and adults in our community. We are 501c3 non-profit organization.

The company was founded by Taylor Bartolucci and Barry Martin in 2009. In 2015, the Lucky Penny Community Arts Center opened. Our Mainstage Season presents seven to 10 fully staged productions each year from September to June, while our Napa Academy of Performing Arts offers training for youth and adults year 'round.

Our Community Arts Center is located at 1758 Industrial Way in Napa. It contains a 99-seat black box theatre, rehearsal room, and technical and storage areas.

Our History image
Lucky Penny Productions was founded in Napa in 2009. Our first performances took place in the depot of the Napa Valley Wine Train in May of that year. A few months later we began producing shows in the Napa Valley Opera House and at Dreamweavers/Napa Valley Playhouse. Along the way we developed co-productions with 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa and Spreckels Theatre Company in Rohnert Park. In January 2015 we opened the Lucky Penny Community Arts Center as the home for all our productions.
